For years motorsport has been a great outlet for advertising. Soviet Union’s planned economy was no exception. Wishing to sell their relatively outdated products in a capitalistic world, the socialistic economy had to follow the 4P law – product, price, place and promotion. Lada , one of Soviet Union’s most sold car brands, used the European and World Rally Championships for successful marketing.
As the standard car had relatively low power output, the decision was to take part in B-group (up to 1,6L) category races. That led to the creation of the VFTS (Vilnius Car Factory) factory in Vilnius with the sole purpose of producing B-group rally cars Lada VFTS.
